John Nagle

John is an actor, director, fight director and teaching artist. As an actor John has toured the country extensively, having performed in 38 states. Credits include Or, (Vermont Stage), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Vermont Shakespeare), Romeo and Juliet (Arkansas Repertory Theatre), Measure for Measure (Connecticut Repertory Theatre), The Last Night of Ballyhoo (The Helen Hayes Performing Arts Center). He performed in over 10 productions of Shakespeare's work with The Alabama Shakespeare Festival including Richard III and Love’s Labor’s Lost. New York credits include performances with The National Shakespeare Company, The International Fringe Festival, The Accidental Theatre Company and MOONWORK.
He toured with The National Shakespeare Company as Bottom in A Midsummer Nights Dream and Casca in Julius Caesar. In 2003, John toured the country as the voice of Scooby Doo in Scooby Doo In Stagefright! John's voice can also be heard on several national radio spots. In 2006 John appeared as Robert Cushman in the Emmy nominated movie Desperate Crossing: The Untold Story of The Mayflower.
Directing credits include The Bake Off (Vermont Stage), Pop Up Plays (Middlebury Town Hall Theater), VT Young Playwrights Festival, The Taming of the Shrew (Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre), Romeo and Juliet (The National Shakespeare Company), Loose Knit (The Stella Adler Studio of Acting /NYU), Romeo and Juliet, The Winter’s Tale, The Tempest, Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, and The Comedy of Errors (Vermont Shakespeare Festival), as well as several original off-off Broadway plays. In January 2017 he will direct Native Gardens at Vermont Stage. Fight Direction credits include National Shakespeare Company, Chelsea Opera Company, MOONWORK and several off-off Broadway shows.
John is a Guest Lecturer for the UVM Department of Theatre, and he was on the faculty at The Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City, where he taught Scene Study and Shakespeare. Other teaching: FlynnArts (VT), The Children's Aid Society and The New Dance Group (NYC). He has also conducted stage combat and Shakespeare workshops in schools all across the USA. John is a certified actor/combatant with The Society of American Fight Directors and holds an MFA from The University of Alabama/ Alabama Shakespeare Festival. He is a member of Actor's Equity.
